SAGE Growth (Below Proficient Subgroup)
Analyzing student growth for at-risk groups is one of the best ways to determine whether the achievement gap at a school is closing. In Utah, student growth (MGP) is reported for the subgroup of students who were not proficient in the prior year. The chart below shows a significant increase in below proficient student growth at Sunset Elementary. The 2016 MGP of 65+ in English language arts and math are particularly remarkable and indicate that non-proficient students are making significant gains toward proficiency in a future year.
Race/Ethnic Minority Subgroup Achievement Gap
A more traditional view of achievement gap closure, one based on demographic subgroups, also demonstrates excellence in closing the achievement gap at Sunset Elementary. Gains in SAGE proficiency for race/ethnic minority students have outpaced the already-impressive gains in whole school proficiency thus closing the achievement gap. The first chart below illustrates the proficiency gains of race/ethnic minority students, and the second chart illustrates the closure of the achievement gap over time.
Sunset Elementary and Davis School District are proud of the remarkable efforts to close the achievement gap. Congratulations to the students, teachers, administrators, and staff at Sunset Elementary!
